I’ve written twice to ask where these ‘eco-friendly’ shoes are made, when they originally claimed they were ‘handmade’. They never replied - but quietly removed that claim. I also asked who are the owners of this brand, when initially they told stories about various young people - all model good looks, fit and tanned, “from Rio”, appeared in their ads as ‘founders’. Again, no reply. Is this a marketing-driven scam with paid PR reviews?
Nice shoes but they employ misleading sales techniques and their customer service is appalling.

You are purchasing these shoes from CARIUMA Singapore. Can you tell from the website?
Why it matters: With a choice of credit cards, some have fees for foreign exchange, others do not. It so happens that I used one of my cards that does charge foreign exchange fees.
Why I am disappointed: I cannot find any reference to where the transaction will be taking place on their web site nor during the purchase process. When I contacted customer support via chat, they ducked and dodged. They offered a weak excuse that they have no way of knowing what fees bank would charge, even though that is not the point.
You would think the location where the transaction will take place would be easy to disclose during the purchase process. When I pointed out this was a simple issue of transparency, they completely avoided the topic.
Finally, their remedy: cancel the order. They really were not interested in my satisfaction. I would have been happy with a discount or credit on my next order, but now there will be no next order.
For a company that espouses high ethics, the lack of transparency and the refusal to own the issue leads me to wonder if all that is a marketing ploy.
Super disappointed. Don't look as good in person, are uncomfortable, and cause a lot of pain on my outer toes (and painful blisters). Also, bits of the green insole come off on my socks and this is hard to get rid of, even in the wash.
The worst part is that they are made in China. There is nothing sustainable about manufacturing under an oppressive communist regime and using petrol to ship them mostly to the other side of the world.
Their website is full of pretty pictures and flowery messages about sustainability. You see the words "Rio" and "Brazil" dozens of times yet "China" is not mentioned until you open the box and see it on the label.
I even hate looking at them on my shelf. Reminds me how I got duped into buying a cheap pair of canvas sneakers made in China for $110 in euros. As soon as I can I'm buying a new pair and donating them.
This review is based upon the whole ethical story, a company to "better serve people and the planet". Upon enquiring where there shoes were being made I was told China - so unless you live in China, not the best purchase to help the planet!!

I ordered shoes from Cariuma 5 weeks ago for my wife, order was picked up 4 days after I ordered. I reached out to them 2 weeks after they were picked up by fedex and 1 week after the expected delivery time. They told me someone would get back to me in 2-3 business days, 2 weeks later I'm still waiting for a response. I have now asked for a refund as they haven't been able to provide me with any updates.
My wife purchased a pair of pink sneekers but the wrong size. Would suggest clear sizing chart when ordering or if ordering from uk just show uk sizes and if US just uS etc..
Anyway the shoes had to go back as size 3 uk instead of 5. Pop into box and seal, attach barcode sticker downloaded from returns link and dropped at local DHL pick up point. once logged in at pick up point refund was in the bank before I even got home. Found the staff really helpful and pleasant. New shoes were quick to arrive and my wife says they are immediately as comfortable as slippers.
I am going to buy some just for the great experience. I will order the correct size.
Great looking shoes. Shipped fast to Canada. Love they have so many uncommon colours like yellow and their commitment to the environment.
The shoes didn't fit but the returns process was super easy and painless with pickup from my house. The customer service team were quick to answer my questions. Thank you Cariuma - just a shame your shoes came in different widths to accommodate my weird shaped feet!
I love the design and love what Cariuma stand for but the shoes barely last a few months. I've just had to throw away my second pair in under a year. I've seen a lot of negative reviews surrounding the customer service but I didn't find that to be the case at all, in fact I was impressed by their customer service.
Great looking shoe, very comfortable but both pairs started to fall apart after less than a month of wear.
Was excited to buy these shoes and had high expectations. They were delivered very quickly too which was great. They look like quality shoes but not nearly as comfortable as everyone else is saying. They seemed to fit OK and I wore them with socks and got blisters within15 minutes! So disappointing :-(
I was excited to buy these shoes! Unfortunately, they were much too large. Customer service was quick to respond, but it took many emails to figure out the best way to return. At first I was going to exchange, but after so many emails, I began to discover the truth about the product and asked for a refund.
1st) I was told that the shoes are men's shoes converted to women's sizes.
2nd) I was told the package was coming from Singapore. I would not have paid $79.00 for shoes made in China.
3rd) Their "Happy Returns" location no longer existed. This created many more steps on my part, to return the shoes.
4th) The positive part to this feedback is that the refund occurred sooner than the 10-day time period that was stated.
